Guitarists should be able to play at least well enough to
strum chords through simple choruses or folk songs without mistakes.
No previous training is necessary (although helpful). For more advanced
players, don't worry- there are plenty of new insights for you too.
You will find that John Standefer does a tremendous job of making
his workshop both interesting and applicable to everyone at practically
every level.
Almost all guitarists have "holes" in their knowledge.
It's like trying to solve a jigsaw puzzle with only a handful of
pieces. With so much missing, one can't possibly see how the pieces
interconnect, much less visualize the overall picture. Without a
clear overview of music, guitarists continually stumble around in
the dark and fall into ruts...and stay there. This doesn't honor
the Lord, and it isn't any fun for the player either.
The Praise Guitar Workshop is designed to address and connect
together dozens of important musical topics. The idea is to open
up minds to new vistas of thought through a good working knowledge
of music theory, while simultaneously introducing new sounds, textures,
rhythms and playing techniques along the way. John does all of this,
while maintaining a good, solid spiritual perspective. Everything
covered in the workshop is also outlined and recorded in the accompanying
workbook and CD. The materials are designed to keep students busy
for weeks after attending the workshop. This new knowledge then
becomes the foundation for future development. Once a clear vision
is in place, learning becomes logical, progressive and attainable.
Many PGW alumni comment that they've learned more about music during
this 8-hour workshop than in all their previous experiences put
together!
The Praise Guitar Workshop starts on a given Friday night
from 7pm to 10pm. The second part then runs from 9am Saturday until
noon, where there is a lunch break. The final phase goes from 1pm
to 3pm on Saturday afternoon. The 8-hour workshop is divided into
these three sections primarily to eliminate "brain-fade",
plus the Friday/Saturday format still leaves a good deal of the
weekend for participants to spend with their families.
Standard Tuition for the Praise Guitar Workshop is $115 (includes book & CD).
Early Bird Tuition for registrations made more than two weeks in advance is only $95!
