Winner
of the 2002 National Fingerstyle Guitar
Championship and
the Open Division winner of the 2004
International "Home
of the Legends" Competition,
John Standefer began playing the guitar in 1963. Learning
the Chet Atkins style by ear as well as studying in a music
conservatory at an early age gave John a great start towards
a musical career, both as a player and teacher. By age 16,
John began a decade of professional playing, touring with
numerous bands, while also teaching private guitar lessons.
It was in 1977 that John became a Christian, leading to his current
involvement in church music. Many years of writing, arranging, performing
and recording Christian Music led to the development of John’s Praise Guitar Workshop.
He has traveled throughout the United States and Canada since 1995
teaching his acclaimed workshops and performing concerts.
Besides these live appearances, John has produced a number of CDs,
books and videos. You'll find these in the on the online store
page at John's other site, JohnStandefer.com. John's most recent recording is Ticket Home, a project in which he revisits his early years and the music inspired him to spend a lifetime playing guitar.
John also writes for Fingerstyle Guitar and Christian Musician magazines and
appears yearly at the Christian Musician Summit in Tacoma and the Chet Atkins convention in
Nashville.
